Engaging Men
Efforts to prevent violence against women will fail unless they undermine the cultural and collective supports for physical and sexual assault found among many men. This paper outlines recent Australian community education campaigns directed at men and the dilemmas with which they deal. It then identified five key challenges in such work.
Honour Related Violence
Honour related violence (HRV) refers to the punishment of girls and women for sexual or societal indiscretions which bring shame on the family. HRV has becoming increasingly visible in Europe over the last decade and its forms range from oppression through to killing. This training manual is a tool for those working to combat HRV such as the police, social services, judiciary, schools, health care services, immigration, as well as civil society organisations and women's shelters. The sessions cover: Introduction to Working on Honour Related Violence; Gender; Empowerment; Patriarchal Power Structures and Violence; Socio-cultural Context, Values and Norms; Understanding the Concept of Honour; HRV and Sexuality; Indications, Risk Assessment of HRV and Support; Coping Strategies; HIV, Poverty and Social Inclusion; and Multi-Sector Cooperation. The different units contain lectures, exercises and case studies. The manual ends with a suggested training schedule, an evaluation form and references for further reading.

Working with Men on Gender, Sexuality, Violence and Health: Trainer’s Manual
Women's health status is an outcome of several interacting factors, including women's relationship with their male partners. This manual is a resource for trainers working with men and youth (boys) on the issue of gender, sexuality, violence and health in India. The content is guided by a social justice and equity perspective and it is 'male-centred' in its approach. There are six distinct modules: Equity and Equality; Gender; Sexuality; Health; Violence and Facilitation Skills. Each module includes the different sessions' aims, activities, handouts and facilitation notes. References for further reading are also given. The 'Violence' module aims to enable participants to understand the concept of violence, to see how it is a gender issue and to increase their sensitivity around the subject. Videos, discussions and case studies form part of the training. This manual is for use by trainers who are working with groups of men, such as teachers with adolescent boys, community organizers with male farmers and facilitators who work with men on issues of gender-based violence.
